It’s a very strange story, but what made me began in the quest of finding out as much as I can about my question of how positive reinforcement in the positive psychology method by nurturing teachers in the school system help modify behavior and improve conduct leading to better grades in terms of elementary school was a five hour trip on a boat in southern California when I was fifteen. You may be wondering how this boat trip has anything to do with this research topic or anything at all, allow me to inform you that it has everything to do with it. It starts like this. I had met this influencial gentleman, who is very much a special friend and mentor, who is very much my hero, and the teacher/mentor I’ve always wanted and dreamed of. The friend and mentor who cares deeply, have a great want to help the individual succeed, quite often knows the answers and is unafraid to answer questions, provides great answers that really aids the person, Uses his words to motivate the person in order to make them feel they can achieve the task in turn making the individual excited about the doing, encourages him on with reason and more answers, the objective commentator who will be straight forward with his opinions, gives spot on advice to the individual, willing to listen to problems and work with him, and so forth. Often, I feel as if he’s some sort of kind wise grandfather to me, even though, he’s clearly not related., this lead me to wondering after that joyful, moving, world shattering and reforming, informative, helpful, and fabulous boat trip why couldn’t all teachers just be like that? Why couldn’t parents be more like that??. However, most importantly, why can’t everyone be as great as the influencial man I met on the boat trip? I started to wonder what qualities allowed this man to shake up this world in such a good way. Then, I found out through readings and research about positive psychology and the method he was using to encourage me on, but yet at times step back and be truthful and tell me about the things that wasn’t going to work for me along with advising me on how to improve while encouraging me on about that as well as what I am doing well. I naturally became interested in positive psychology and what and how it could do. I only new about the basic concept and how it worked in general. My mentor and friend served as my motivation to learn more about the field and how it works, what it does to people, and come out of school to do work that was as good as his own or even better. I thought it would be only right, after being touched, moved, and helped by such an influencial man to contribute to the market with the same level of greatness and competence. I continue today with the same mindset still wanting very much that same goal. That is the very reason in which I am writing this research paper and posing that question.

In posing this question I am hoping to gain more knowledge on this field of study as a psychology student, and hopefully to be psychologist. I wish to also learn more about what works and what doesn’t and what it works for and what it doesn’t work for. I wish to be able to have more support for my position, but not only that, but with this support practice this kind of method of psychology more effectively in order to help people and society. I am hoping to apply it to my everyday use so that I may be able to help people out as I often do in a better more informed manner. However, I am of the opinion that this research doesn’t only aid psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, psychology students, and people in the helth professions, but any individual no matter who it is from truck drivers, genitors, and phone operators to scientists, mathematicians, millionaire business men, and politicians with there life. Everyone is a friend to someone and helps them out, this research question and the findings will help them in becoming a better more efficient friend, who really can help people successfully. I want to know this information in order to be just that.

Very interesting.

Wasn't there a school in England (was it called Summerhill or something like that) that influenced educational psychologists to take a more positive approach to learning?

Anyway, let us know when it gets published.
